They had four children, Mary (b1872), Charles (b1874), John (b1876) and Samuel (b1880). They lived next door to her mother-in-law Mary. By 1891, they had moved to 25 South Yorkshire Buildings, Silkstone and had had two more children Elizabeth Emma (b1883) and Mary Ann (b1888). In 1901, they lived at 12 Church Hill, Dodworth. Parents: Samuel LOCKWOOD and Elizabeth (Betty) JUKES.

Samuel was living with his father and classed as an illegitimate son. He lived in Kine Moor, Silkstone, Yorkshire in 1861. In 1861, Samuel lived with his father and his sister. Both he and Emma were now known as Jukes. By 1871, Samuel Jukes was calling himself Samuel Lockwood and he had married Ann and had two children, Emma (b1868, Silkstone) and Arthur (b1870, Oxspring) and they lived in Thurgoland. By 1881, Samuel Lockwood Jukes was a Gamekeeper in Wombwell. His children now included Alice A (b1873, Wombwell), Mary J (b1875, Wombwell), Samuel (b1878, Wombwell) and Walter (b1879, Wombwell). In 1891, the family had moved to Blacker Hill, Silkstone and the children included Christine (b1883, Wombwell), Bertha (b1885, Wombwell) and Clara (b1889, Blacker Hill). Samuel had obviously been influenced by his father as he continued to be a Gamekeeper. Parents: Samuel LOCKWOOD and Elizabeth (Betty) JUKES.


Thomas JUKES was born about 1782 in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. Thomas had been married firstly to Hannah Kinner in 1802 and they had had four children:- Jonathan (1804), Hannah (1806), Sarah (1808) and Martha (c.3 February 1811 All Saints' Church, Silkstone). Hannah had died in 1811 soon after Martha's birth and was buried at All Saints' Church, Silkstone on 3 February 1811 (aged 37). This was the same day as her daughter's christening. Their daughter Martha was buried on 6 June 1811. He lived in Mustard Hill, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire between 1841 and 1851. In 1841 he was a Nailmaker in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire.

Spouse: Julia UNKNOWN. Thomas JUKES and Julia UNKNOWN were married about 1811. Children were: Mary JUKES, Elizabeth (Betty) JUKES, James JUKES.

They had married at Silkstone Church on 16 August 1790. She lived in Thurlstone, Yorkshire in 1841. In 1841 she was a Clothier in Thurlstone, Yorkshire. Nancy was a widow and she lived with her children Isaac, Ruth, and Joseph and her married daughter Mary (Mather) and her husband Joseph and their children Jonas and Alice.

Spouse: Elihu WALSHAW. Elihu WALSHAW and Ann (Nancy) KAY were married on 8 Jun 1812 in All Saints' Church, Silkstone, Yorkshire. They both lived in Hoylandswaine and they married after Banns. The witnesses were John Beaumont and Stephern Senior. Children were: Jonas WALSHAW, Mary WALSHAW, John WALSHAW, Thomas WALSHAW, James WALSHAW, Jane WALSHAW, Isaac WALSHAW, Ruth WALSHAW, Joseph WALSHAW.


Anna Edith (Daisy) KAY was born on 19 Apr 1876 in Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand. She was christened on 5 Jun 1876 in Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand. The witnesses at Anna's christening were: John Robinson from America and Julia Robinson from Thames, New Zealand. The priest was Father John Golden. Anna Edith never married but she was left part of her brother William's estate which on her death went to various Roman Catholic Church charities.

Charles KAY was born about 1849. He emigrated on 18 Dec 1854 from Melbourne, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand. Charles was five years old when he left Melbourne on 18th December 1854 bound for Auckland, New Zealand on the ship 'Pirate'. He travelled steerage class with his parents and his siblings Robert and Annie and they arrived in Auckland on 28th December 1854. In 1871 he was a Bricklayer in Shortland, Thames, New Zealand.

Spouse: Mary Jane Frances (Jane) ROBINSON. Charles KAY and Mary Jane Frances (Jane) ROBINSON were married on 31 Jul 1871 in St Francis of Assisi Church, Thames, Auckland, New Zealand. The priest was Father Nivard Jourdan. There were four witnesses to the marriage: Caroline Robinson (b1846), Mary Jane's sister who lived at Shortland, and her boyfriend Robert Kay (b1851) who was Charles' brother, Annie Kay, who lived in Parnell, and William Robinson (b1844), Mary Jane's brother who lived in Shortland.
A newspaper report of the marriage in the Daily Southern Cross dated 2 August 1871 stated " KAY-ROBINSON –On July 31, at the Roman Catholic Church, Shortland, by the Rev Father Nivard, and afterwards at St George’s Church, by the Rev. V Lush, Charles, eldest son of Mr Robert Kay, Parnell, to Mary Jane Frances, eldest daughter of the late Mr John Robinson, Kilucan, County Westmeath, Ireland. " They lived in Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand in 1876. Children were: William KAY, Caroline May (May) KAY, Anna Edith (Daisy) KAY, David Arthur KAY.


David Arthur KAY was born on 18 Dec 1877 in Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand. He was christened on 23 Jan 1878 in Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand. He died about 1919. He never married. Parents: Charles KAY and Mary Jane Frances (Jane) ROBINSON.


Martha KAY was born about 1780 in Tildesley, Leigh, Lancashire. Martha was the daughter of Zacchaeus Kay and Ann Hope. They had married in Eccles on 15 May 1764 and their children were christened in Leigh as follows:- John (15 December 1764), Ralph (20 January 1771), John (28 August 1774), Betty (30 January 1779) and Martha (15 September 1781). She lived in Stanley Street, Warrington, Lancashire in 1851. She was a widow aged 70 and had two female servants. She was an Annuitant. She died about 1858 in Warrington, Lancashire.

Spouse: William BURDETT. William BURDETT and Martha KAY were married on 19 Nov 1812 in Warrington, Lancashire. It appears that this was the only Burdett family in Warrington at the time. They lived in Sankey Street, Warrington, Lancashire in 1841. William and Martha lived with their children John, Ann and Edward. The family was transcribed as BURCHETT. William was noted as not being born in Lancashire but the others had all been born in Lancashire. Children were: William BURDETT, John BURDETT, Edward BURDETT, Anne BURDETT, Edward BURDETT.

Spouse: John BARRACLOUGH. John BARRACLOUGH and Mary KAY were married on 19 May 1800 in High Hoyland, Yorkshire. Children were: William BARRACLOUGH, Thomas BARRACLOUGH, John BARRACLOUGH, William John BARRACLOUGH.

The three witnesses were: William Robinson a Reporter from Shortland (her brother), Annie Kay from Parnell (Robert's sister) and Julia McNamara (soon to be William's wife) from Parawai. They had no children.

Spouse: John BURDET. John BURDET and Sarah KAY were married about 1623. Children were: Thomas BURDET.


William KAY was born on 16 Aug 1871 in Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand. He was christened on 23 Jan 1878 in Hamilton, Auckland, New Zealand. His sponsor was Augustus Nixon Scott from Hamilton but it was noted that there were conditions to the christening. Was the priest unimpressed that he had been born two weeks after his parents' marriage or unimpressed that it had taken them six years to have the child christened? Parents: Charles KAY and Mary Jane Frances (Jane) ROBINSON.

Spouse: Ada Blanche HODGSON. William KAY and Ada Blanche HODGSON were married on 19 Apr 1909. William and Ada had no children and William left his estate to his unmarried sisters Caroline May and Ada Edith and this went, on their deaths, to various Roman Catholic Church charities.


Charles KAYE was born about 1861 in Hepworth, Yorkshire. In 1891 he was a Wire Drawer and Local Wesleyan Preacher in Thurlstone, Yorkshire.

In 1861 they had five children: Thomas (iron stone miner), Jonas (agricultural labourer), Mary Ann (1852), Eliza (1857) and Reuben (1860). They still lived in Hay Slacks, Hepworth but Nathan now farmed 33 acres. Another child, Aaron, was born in 1863 and Hannah died soon afterwards. Nathan married Anne Biltcliffe less than a year later. They lived in Hay Slacks, Hepworth, Yorkshire in 1871. Nathan and Ann lived with his sons Reuben and Aaron.


Albert KEARSLEY was born about 1907 in Wigan, Lancashire. He died about 1989. Parents: James KEARSLEY and Mary Elizabeth HEPPLESTONE.
