They had one son - Jeffrey. Elizabeth HYDES was born about 1873 in Dodworth, Yorkshire. Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Hydes and Sarah Lumb. The Hydes Family:- Thomas Hydes was born in late 1840 in Dodworth, Yorkshire and Sarah was born in about 1845 in Barnsley. Thomas was one of the four children of Thurston HYDE (b.1796 Barnsley) and Mary b.1805 Dodworth). (Mary was possibly Mary Bradbury who married Thurston Lingard Hyde in Darfield on 11 October 1835.) He may have been a widower as a Thurston Lingard Hyde married Maria Travis on 14 April 1823 at All Saints' Church in Silkstone. Both were "of this parish" and they had a daughter Sarah (c.16 May 1824 Worsborough). Back to Thurston and Mary....Their children were:- William (c.17 January 1836 Silkstone), John (c.30 September 1838 Silkstone), Thomas (c.29 November 1840 Silkstone) and Elizabeth (c.25 May 1845 Silkstone - her father's name was mistranscribed as HURSTON HYDE). In 1841 Thurston HYDE was a weaver and he and Mary and their children William, John and Thomas lived in Dodworth. In 1851 Thurston HYDE was a linen weaver and lived at Dodworth Bottom with his wife Mary and their children William (coal miner), John (coal miner), Thomas and Elizabeth. In 1861 Thurston HYDE was still a linen weaver but he was a widower. He and his children John (coal miner), Thomas (coal miner) and Elizabeth lived at Pilley Hill, Dodworth. Thomas Hydes married Sarah Lumb in 1869. Sarah already had a son, Richard Lumb, who had been born in 1867 in Barnsley. It is probable that Thomas and Sarah lived with Thomas' father after their marriage. In 1871 Thomas (enumerated as HYDE) and Sarah lived at Dodworth Bottom. Thomas was a coal miner and living with them they had Sarah's son, Richard Lumb (listed as Thomas' son) and their daughter Ellen (b.1870; c.2 December 1870 St. John's Church, Dodworth) and a boarder, Thurston HYDE (a widower; aged 75; linen weaver - Thomas's father). Their daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1873 in Dodworth. In 1877 THURLESTONE Hydes died aged 81 and was buried at St. John's Church, Dodworth on 21 June 1877. In 1881 Thomas (enumerated as HYDE) and Sarah lived at 4, Pilley Hill, Dodworth with Richard Lumb (a horse driver in a coal miner) and Elizabeth. Thomas was a coal miner. Their daughter Ellen was staying with her aunt Elizabeth Wild (nee Hydes b.1845) in Meanwood, Chapel Allerton, Leeds. Elizabeth Hydes had married Thomas Wild in 1867. In 1881 Thomas Wild was 39 (b.Meanwood, Chapel Allerton) and was listed as a labourer and an army pensioner (18th Foot). Elizabeth was a laundress. In 1891 Thomas and Sarah still lived at 4, Pilley Hill, Dodworth where Thomas was a coal miner. They lived with their daughter Elizabeth and Sarah's son, Richard Lumb (a coal miner). Their daughter Ellen (enumerated as Hydes) was a patient in Beckett's Hospital in Barnsley. She was listed as aged 20 and a washerwoman. Elizabeth had a son, George William Walshaw Hydes (b.1871 c. 24 June 1891 at St John's Church, Dodworth and transcribed as George William EBASHAW Hydes). Elizabeth married in 1892. On 23 July 1897 Ellen HYDE was buried in St. John the Baptist churchyard in Dodworth. In 1901 Thomas and Sarah still lived in the same house and their grandson, George William Walshaw Hydes (Elizabeth's illegitimate son) lived with them. Thomas was a colliery laboourer (below ground). Now back to Elizabeth.... She died about 1919 in Dodworth, Yorkshire. Spouse: William WALSHAW. William WALSHAW and Elizabeth HYDES were married
about 1892 in Dodworth, Yorkshire. Family sources say that they had
twenty two children. They lived in 2 Shaw's Yard, Pilley Hill, Dodworth, Yorkshire
in 1901. William and Elizabeth lived with their children NELLY, Emma
and Fred. Family sources state that, he ran a "tossing" school and
was also a moneylender, all illegal. These "professions" his son, George
William Walshaw Hydes, took over from his father.
