Gosport) lived with William John (garden boy), Sarah Eliza E (1883) and a lodger. Albert Hayles was an inmate at the Purley Lodge Truant School, Patcham, Sussex. The superintendant was Eli Taylor and his wife was the matron. They lived with their two sons, one labour master, 1 assistant matron and a female servant and 36 boy inmates. In 1901 Albert was a stoker aboard the "Alexandra", a second class battleship off Portland, Dorset. Parents: John HAYLES and Eliza LANE. John (Jack) HAYLES was born on 23 Nov 1874 in Portland, Dorset. In 1891 he was a 1st Class Boy in Portsmouth Harbour. He was serving aboard the training ship "Martin". In 1901 he was an Able Seaman in the battleship "Repulse" off Gibraltar. On 12 February 1907 John married Alice Elizabeth Bultitude in Blythling, Suffolk and they had one son, Kenneth Cramer Bultitude Hayles (b.1913). He died on 4 Apr 1947.
