They had four children:- Joseph Banks (1839), Eleanor (1841), Agnes (1843) and Robert (1845). In 1851 all the family lived in Friers Lane, Warrington and Benjamin was a master maltster. They had one female house servant. Frances died in 1857 and in 1861 Benjamin had moved to St. Austin's Lane, Warrington where he was to live until his death in 1877. In 1861 Benjamin was recorded a "Justice of the Peace for the County of Lancaster and Justice of the Peace for the Borough of Warrington and Maltster". He and his children Eleanor, Agnes and Robert lived with one house maid and one cook. In 1871 his name was transcribed as PARPOURT and he was listed as a magistrate and he lived with Agnes and one cook and one house maid.
In 1871 she was an Annuitant in Lytham, Lancashire. She died about 1876 in Lytham, Lancashire.

The Grist Family:- John Grist was born in 1835 in Gurnard Bay, Cowes and he was one of the nine children of Daniel and Elizabeth Grist. In 1851 he was an agricultural labourer like his father. In 1855 he married Emma Scovell (b.1833 Carisbrooke) at St. Mary's Church, Carisbrooke. Their children were:- Emma Jane (b.1856 West Cowes), Samuel (b.1858 Carisbrooke), Sarah Hannah (b.1860 Havenstreet), Elizabeth Ann (b.1861 Binstead), John (b.1863 Binstead), Moses (b.1865 Binstead), William Henry (b.1868 Haylands, Ryde) and Frederick Charles (b.1870 Haylands, Ryde).
In 1861 John (baker's assistant) and Emma lived with their eldest three children and two lodgers at a cottage in Binstead.
In 1871 John (baker) and Emma lived with all their children in Upton Road, Haylands, Ryde.
By 1881 they had moved to the Post Office at 34 Swanmore Road, Ryde and they stayed there until at least 1901. In 1881 John was still a baker but his wife and daughter Emma Jane worked in the Post Office. Four other children lived at home - John (bricklayer), Moses (mason) and William and Frederick. In 1891 John was a jobbing gardener and his wife Emma and daughter Emma Jane still worked in the Post Office and did so until at least 1901. Frederick still lived at home and he was a gardener. Henry William Oscar Weeks (b.1889 Ryde; grandson; son of Henry James Weeks and Elizabeth Ann Grist) lived with them and continued to do so until at least 1901. In 1901 John was a market gardener on his own account and he and Emma lived with their children Emma Jane and Frederick and their grandson Henry William Oscar Weeks. Now back to Elizabeth Ann Grist... In 1881 she was a Housemaid in Anglesea Lodge, John Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight. She lived in 57 Swanmore Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight in 1901. Elizabeth was enumerated as "head of the household" and married. Henry was not at home. Their children Florence and Cyril lived with her. In 1901 she was a Lodging House Keeper on her own account at home in 57 Swanmore Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight.

In 1901 Matilda (living on her own means) was a widow and she still lived at Laurel Cottage, Newchurch but she had her granddaughter Annie Groves (22; b. Newchurch) with her. Annie was the daughter of William Groves.


Ann GUSTARD was born on 25 Dec 1810 in Adgestone, Isle of Wight. Ann's parents were Isaac Gustard and Elizabeth Salter.
In 1841 Isaac GUSLAR (60; agricultural labourer and Elizabeth (55) lived in Barton's Village with Mary (30; lace maker) and Hannah (25; lace maker), George (20; carter) and Ann (2) and Frank (1). NB These were Hannah's illegitimate children. Hannah had another son, William Gustard, in 1841 before she married John Warder (carter of coal; b.1820 Brading) in 1846 in St. Mildred's Church, Whippingham and her children were brought up in the Warder household.
In 1851 Isaac (labourer; 72; b,1779 Wellow) and Elizabeth (67; b.1784 Arreton) still lived in Barton's village with George (labourer; 32; b.1818 Brading). She was christened on 27 Jan 1811 in Arreton, Isle of Wight. She died about 1867 in Arreton, Isle of Wight.

Spouse: William HAYLES. William HAYLES and Ann GUSTARD were married on 28 Sep 1833 in Whippingham, Isle of Wight. William signed the Marriage Register but Ann left her mark as did the witnesses James Gustard and Mary Gustard. On the same day, and probably at the same time, Ann's sister Jane Gustard was married to Edward Inderst. Both marriages were celebrated by the Curate Reverend James William Arnold. They lived in Balambs, Arreton, Isle of Wight between 1851 and 1861. In 1851, Ann's nephew Frank Gustard (b1838 - Whippingham) lived with them.

In 1871 Abraham and Mary lived with their unmarried children Hannah, Jane, Henry, Charles, Fred, Irving and Arthur. A granddaughter Sarah Ellen Dearnley aged 3 and a female granddaughter, with the surname Dearnley, of four days also lived with the family. Sarah Ellen was Hannah's child and the baby was Jane's daughter Mary Emma.
In 1881 Fred, Irving and Arthur were still at home. Sarah Ellen also still lived with her grandparents as did their married son, John. They lived in Ivy House, High Flatts, Denby, Yorkshire in 1891. Abraham and Mary lived with their son, Edwin and their grandchildren Ada and Edwin Dearnley (Henry's children) and Fred Beaumont (Hannah's son). Ada and Edwin probably lived with their grandparents permanently as their father, Henry, had been widowed in 1885. Children were: John DEARNLEY, Hannah DEARNLEY, Jane DEARNLEY, Herbert DEARNLEY, Henry DEARNLEY, George DEARNLEY, Wright DEARNLEY, Charles Edward DEARNLEY, Fred DEARNLEY, Tom DEARNLEY, Irvin (Ervin) DEARNLEY, Arthur DEARNLEY.

Delarever Burdett HAIGH was born on 1 Aug 1901 in Denby, Yorkshire. He was christened on 9 Feb 1902 in St. John the Evangelist Church, Denby, Yorkshire. He was in the Denby Band and on parade for the Jubilee Celebrations in 1935 in Denby, Yorkshire. He died about 1965. Parents: Walker HAIGH and Julia BURDETT.
