What is now called Upper Cumberworth was originally in the Staincoss Wapentake in the Honour of Pontefract and part of the parishes of Silkstone and High Hoyland. Cumberworth Half, or Lower Cumberworth was originally in the Agbrigg Wapentake in the Manor of Wakefield and a part of the parishes of Kirkburton and Emley. Hence this is the reason that Thomas and Hannah's children were christened in Emley. However the residents of Cumberworth had petitioned Archbishop Tobias Matthew in York asking for baptism and burial rights at Cumberworth due to the great distance they had to travel to their parish Church at Silkstone. He signed the agreement on 4 July 1627. From this time onward the villagers could bury their dead in Cumberworth.

A piece of kersey cloth and a piece of plain cloth were ready for the cloth hall and his farm stock included cattle, sheep, corn and hay.
On her father-in-law's death in 1732 Mary received 12d and her son Amos was to receive £5 when he reached the age of 21.

There is some doubt as to whether Tobias or George was the eldest son.
