By the early 1930s Edwin was doing well in the building trade and he went into
partnership with his friend, a Mr. Buchanan. A builder's merchants was built
opposite Bromley station called Buchanan and Co. When Mr. Buchanan died Edwin
took over the business and worked there all his life. His daughter, Joyce, took
charge of the office and also worked there all her working life. After Edwin's
death in 1938 his son Alec took over the business until his death in 1980.
