Isaac Charles (Charles) SIMS was born about 1877 in Burley, Hampshire. He died about 1962 in Lymington, Hampshire. Isaac had married Mary House in 1900 in Brockenhurst. Initially he was a groom in Brockenhurst and then he joined the Metropolitan Police in 1899. During his 25 years service he spent all but three of them with the mounted branch. He rode a grey horse. He served with the Mounted Military Police in France during the First World War (initially with the 4th Hants Volunteers before enlisting in 1914 in the Lancers). He returned to the Metropolitan Police after demobilization and was at most of the state occasions. He retired in 1924 and returned to Burley and ran a pub. He then spent six years as licensee of the Market House Inn and The Globe in Somerton, Somerset.Then he moved to the Fisherman's Rest at Lymington for five years. He was in the L.D.V. platoon and the Home Guard during World War Two. He went to the Sportsman's Rest at Pennington for seventeen years, retiring three years before his death. His wife died a year before him. They had two daughters, Marion and Dorothy. All lived close to each other in Lymington. Parents: Isaac SIMS and Louisa FRY.

The entries read 'Elizabeth, base born, 1810'; 'Henry John, Unknown'; 'William of Martha Pain Hill (Pennell?) 1816'; (Martha came back and had Louisa the next year!) and poor little 'Harriott, Unknown aged 4' was presumably left on the doorstep. Mrs Lydia Tanner looked after all these children as well as producing a regular stream of children herself. They were married on 7 Jul 1811 in Ringwood, Hampshire.
