Mary Ann BEAUMONT was born about 1835 in Denby, Yorkshire. Mary Ann was the daughter of William Beaumont and Harriet Roberts. The Beaumont Family:- William Beaumont of High Flatts was born in August 1783 in Fulstone, near High Flatts but, as he was from a Quaker family who did not believe in "sprinkling" their children, he was only baptised on 14 July 1805 at the age of 21 years and 11 months when he wanted to marry in the Established church. He was recorded in the Penistone Parish records as "William Beaumont, son of Abraham Beaumont, a Quaker". He marrried Mary Jakeman in 1805 and they had two daughters before Mary died and was buried on 8 June 1810. The two girls, Elizabeth (1806) and Harriet (1808), were buried on 16 August 1810. On 7 February 1814 William married Harriet Roberts (b.1794 in Coates, daughter of Joshua and Helen Roberts). Their children were John (1814), George (1815), William (1818), Sally (1822), Abraham (1824), Martha (1826), Esther (1828), Joseph (1831), Ann (1834), Mary (1835), Jonathan (1838) and Wilson (1841) In 1841 William and Harriet lived at Delph House, a farm on a rise midway between High Flatts and Ingbirchworth. William was a farmer and he and Harriet had the following children at home - Abraham (shoemaker), Esther, Joseph, Ann, Mary, Jonathan and Wilson. By 1851 the family lived at High Flatts and in the household were William (farmer), Harriet, Joseph and Wilson. William died on 25 January 1858 at High Flatts and he was buried in the Quaker burial ground at High Flatts. Harriet continued to run the farm and in 1861 she lived with Mary Ann and Wilson and Mary Ann's illegitimate son, Arthur. On 20 December 1869 Harriet died in High Flatts and she was buried in the Quaker burial ground on Charistmas Eve. Her children all married local folk. John (1814-1873) married Mary Ann Fisher and farmed at Birds Edge farm; George (1815-1891) married Maria Poppleton and farmed at High Flatts; William (1818-1896) married Maria's sister Mary and they farmed at High Flatts; Abraham (1824-1861) married Hannah Wood and farmed at Peat Pits Farm, Bradfield; Esther (1828-1899) married William Womersley and they moved to Hipperholme near Brighouse and farmed there; Joseph (1831-) married a widow called Sarah Bottomley and lived in Rastrick and worked as a general labourer; Ann (1834-) went into service, initially in Denby and then in Marsh near Huddesfield; Jonathan (1838-1849) and Wilson (1841-1873) were both buried in the Quaker burial ground at High Flatts. Now back to Mary Ann.... She died about 1876 in Denby, Yorkshire. Mary Ann died a month after her youngest daughter, Mary Ann, was born, presumably as a result of complications after the birth.
