| Sam SHAW was born about 1844
in Skelmanthorpe, Yorkshire. Spouse: Hannah DEARNLEY. Sam SHAW and Hannah DEARNLEY were married about 1882. Seth SHAW was born about 1841 in Ingbirchworth, Yorkshire. Seth was one month old at the time of the census and Charlotte was two months old. It is likely that Seth was "adopted" from a family member. Parents: Giles SHAW and Elizabeth (Betty) WALSHAW. Thomas (Tom) SHAW was born about 1833 in Ingbirchworth, Yorkshire. He was christened on 28 Feb 1837 in St. Nicholas' Church, Cumberworth, Yorkshire. In 1851 he was a Cashmere Piecer in Stayley, Cheshire. Parents: Giles SHAW and Elizabeth (Betty) WALSHAW. William SHAW had a dispute about tithes on 7 Jun 1656. " William Shaw of Peniston, Yorks., fellmonger, and Barbary Burdett of Penistone, widow, are bound to John Sotwell of Cathill, Yorks., gent., and Thomas Walshaw of Carhead, Yorks., yeoman, in £50, to keep the covenants of a deed of equal date." "William Shaw of Penistone, Yorks., fellmonger, and Mary, his wife, daughter and heir of Richard Burdet, late of Carhead, gent., dec'd., and Barbary Burdett, widow, late wife of Richard Burdett, to John Sotwell of Cathill, Yorks., gent., and Thomas Walshaw of Carhead, yeoman. Tithes of corn, grain, hay, wool and lamb, and all other tithes issuing from the capital messuage called Carhead, lying in Hoylandswayne, par. Silkstone." On the same date a Bond records "William Shaw of Penistone, Yorks., fellmonger, and Mary, his wife, and Barbary Burdet of Penistone, widow, to John Sotwell of Cathill, Yorks., gent., and Thomas Wallshaw of Carhead, Yorks., yeoman. Bond made between William Field, late of Carhead, yeoman, dec'd., and Richard Burdett, late of Carhead, for £40, to enable Sotwell and Wallshaw, to better enjoy tithes of corn, and grain issuing out of Carhead messuage, against the heirs of William Field." He was a Fellmonger in Penistone, Yorkshire. Fellmongering was an extremely unpleasant job. The initial step of the fellmongering process was to plunge the sheep skins into clean water in a pit and they stayed there for 6 to 10 hours until the coat became soft and supple. The skins were taken out of the pit and hung over wooden trestles to drain before being laid out flat and painted with a lime mixture on the flesh side. When the pores of the skin were open the wool was separated from the skin without damaging it. The skin was then dried and sent to the tanners and the wool was worked so that it could be passed on to the spinners. Spouse: Mary BURDET. William SHAW and Mary BURDET lived in Carr Head, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire on 14 Jun 1623. They were married. William SHAW was born about 1826 in Ingbirchworth, Yorkshire.
