He served in the military between 1 Oct 1859 and 22 Oct 1878. George was a Policeman when he attested for the 30th Foot Regiment at Curragh Camp, County Kildare on 1 October 1859 at the age of 20.
At his own request he asked for discharge after serving 19 years and 22 days (Canada four years and 9/12). His conduct had been good and had one Good Conduct Badge and would would have had four if he had not been promoted. He also had a Second Class School Certificate.
He was 39 on discharge and was 5 feet 10 1/2 inches tall with a fresh complexion, grey eyes and fair hair.

Sergeant 9 April 1876 to 22 October 1878 In 1863 he was a Sergeant in the 30th Regiment in Newport, Isle of Wight. In the 1860s the British Army was a volunteer army. George was stationed at Parkhurst Barracks, Newport, Isle of Wight.
The 30th (Cambridgeshire) Regiment of Foot was formed in 1702 and designated as the 30th regiment in 1751.During the early part of the American War of Independence the Thirtieth was in Ireland; but it sailed from Cork with other reinforcements in 1781 arriving in Charleston in June 1781 and made one campaign in Carolina. When the Carolina Loyalists abandoned their old homes, in December, 1782, the 30th accompanied part of the convoy to Jamaica. As a single battalion corps, the 30th arrived in Canada in 1842.
The 30th Foot fought in the Crimea in 1854 and from 1860 to 1870 the battalion served in Canada and Nova Scotia. In New York city in 1859 The Fenian Brotherhood decided to further the Irish cause for independence. In 1865 a plan was made for the Fenians to invade Canada. The planned date was 17th March 1866 (St Patrick's Day). As events have it this was not the actual day for the invasion as they were not ready. The planned elaborate attacks were not the same when put into effect due to the lack of Fenian support. The initial Fenian raid took place on the night of May 31st 1866 and the final engagement was 22nd June 1866. In 1870 the Fenians tried again with two further raids, the first on 25th May and the second 27th May. The 30th Foot were involved in the Fenian raids of 1866 in Canada (then called British North America). Only 1,368 Canadian General Service Medals were awarded to British soldiers. George was No.487 and was a Sergeant at the time. The 30th Foot then went to Jersey and were stationed at St. Peter's Barracks. George was sent to Fort Southwick in the 1870s. In the late 1870s the regiments were renamed and the 30th Foot became the 1st Battalion the East Lancashire Regiment and their depot was in Burnley. In 1881 he was a Pensioner (Colour Sergeant 5th Royal Lancashire Militia) in Habergham Eaves, Burnley, Lancashire. In 1891 he was a Bookseller and Publisher of Weekly Paper in Habergham Eaves, Burnley, Lancashire. In 1901 he was an Army Pensioner and worker in Southport, Lancashire. He died of valvular (mitral) disease of the heart and acute bronchitis (6 days) on 30 Jan 1922 in 10 Olive Grove, Southport, Lancashire. Parents: John ROBINSON and Johanna CURTAIN.

In 1881 Nicholas was a farm servant (indoor) for the Rimmer family. In 1884 Nicholas and Ann Rimmer had married and in 1891 they had Nancy (1886), Elizabeth (1887), Richard (1890) and Hannah (1890). Richard and Hannah were triplets with John. John died soon after birth. Hannah died in 1891 and Richard died in 1892. In 1891 Nicholas was a coal dealer and in 1901 he was a general labourer in Southport and he lived with Ann and their remaining two daughters.) She arrived in Montreal from Liverpool on 18 Aug 1910. On her immigration record was noted that Georgina was 23 and the reason for coming to Canada was "to be married". She was a clerk and Church of England but has no job just before leaving England and did not envisage having one in Canada. She left Liverpool for Montreal on 27 Sep 1913. Fred, Georgina and Muriel returned on the "Megantic", a ship of the White Star Dominion Line The crossing was from Liverpool to Montreal and it lasted 21 days and they arrived on 5 October 1913.
She arrived in Montreal on 18 Aug 1920. Georgina Johnson (33; married; arrived in Montreal initially in 1910 and lived there for 10 years; Canadian citizen; housewife) and her children Muriel (8), Eileen (4) and Frederick (11 months) returned to Quebec on the "Prinz Friedrich Wilhelm". She left Liverpool for Montreal on 7 Sep 1935. Georgina V. Johnson (48; b. Burnley, England) and her husband Frederick of 30 Kindersley Avenue, Mount Royal, Montreal) and their children Muriel (23), Eileen (19), Frederick (16) and David (7) arrived in Montreal on 15 September 1935 on the "Athenia".
She arrived in Southampton from Quebec on 10 Aug 1939. Georgina Johnson (52; housewife; Canada House, Trafalgar Square, London; Canadian citizen) travelled cabin class on the "Empress of Australia" (Canadian Pacific Line) with her husband Frederick.

She met Clarence Anthony Robinson's wife, Jean, and they corresponded for many years. She also visited Jean and Ray Owers and their family in Bexleyheath several times. William died in 1858 and Harriet was, once again, a widow. In 1861 she, Joseph Wade (a Cloth Finisher) and Fanny Wade (a Factory Girl) lived at Hinchcliffe Bottom, Denby Dale, with James Mallinson. Children were: Thomas (Tom) MALLINSON, James MALLINSON, Mary Ann MALLINSON.

Spouse: Doris May CALVERT. Henry James ROBINSON and Doris May CALVERT were married about 1935 in Scarborough, Yorkshire. They had one daughter, Patricia Ann in 1936. By 1939 Henry was in the King's Royal Rifle Corps but was captured in Calais and spent six years in a P.O.W. Camp. After being demobbed in late 1945 he went back to Scarborough and bought a business jointly with his wife's brother. He sold his part of the business to his brother-in-law about a year later and disappeared.
He went to Queensland, Australia and in the 1950s worked at Mount Isa in a lead mine. The nearest town was Main, located at the northern end of the Selwyn Range. The city’s name is attributed to John Campbell Miles, who in 1923 discovered deposits of silver-lead ore and named one of his leases after his sister Isabelle.
