90. Noah WALSHAW was born about 1813 in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. On 8 Jun 1840 he was a Weaver in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. In 1841 he was an Agricultural Labourer in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. In 1851 he was a Farm Labourer in Upper Cumberworth, Yorkshire. In 1861 he was an Agricultural Labourer in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. Between 1871 and 1881 he was a Sexton in St. Nicholas' Church, Cumberworth, Yorkshire. The Barnsley Chronicle reported on 23 September 1876 that Noah had charged Benjamin Garside with assaulting him on 17 September at Denby as he was returning home from Ingbirchworth with his wife. The defendant was fined 20s and costs for the assault and was ordered to pay Noah 5s damage caused to his coat. He was buried on 11 Apr 1889 in St. Nicholas' Church, Cumberworth, Yorkshire. He died in Apr 1889 in Cumberworth, Yorkshire.
Noah WALSHAW and Ann WOODHEAD were married
on 8 Jun 1840 in Kirkburton, Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Noah nade his
mark in the register but Ann and their two witnesses William Woodhead and George
Woodhead signed their names. They lived in Birkhouse, Cumberworth, Yorkshire
in 1841. Noah, Ann and their 6 month old son, Henry, lived with her
parents John and Amelia Woodhead. John was the Assistant Overseer and they still
had two children living at home (Eliza b.1830 and Stephen b.1834) and Amelia's
mother, Mary Field aged 80 lived with them. They lived in Upper Cumberworth,
Yorkshire between 1851 and 1889. All the children lived at home in
1851 and 1861. In 1861 the family also lived close to Ann's brother, George Woodhead
(a Hand Loom Fancy Weaver), and his wife Fanny and family of eight children.
In 1871 just William was still at home. In 1881 Noah and Ann had their grandson,
Henry Noah Walshaw (6 months) living with them. He was their daughter Elizabeth's
illegitimate son. They lived in Balm Wood House, Upper Cumberworth, Yorkshire
in 1871. Ann WOODHEAD was born about 1818
in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. Ann was the daughter of John Woodhead
(b.1791-parents Abraham Woodhead (1749-1832) and Mary (1752-1828)) and Amelia
Field (b.1795-parents Stephen and Mary Field).
John and Amelia married on 30 March 1812 in Cumberworth and had the following
children; George (1812-1886), Edwin and Ann (1814), Matilda (1816-1838), Ann
(1818), Sarah (1821), Jane (1823), Mary Ann (1826), Eliza (1830) and Stephen
Field Woodhead (1834). John was a School Master in 1840 and an Assistant Overseer
in 1841. His children had been taught to read and write and both Ann and her
brother George (witness at Ann's wedding) could sign their names. John died in
1850 and was buried at Cumberworth on 29 May 1850 next to his wife Amelia who
had been buried on 9 Aug 1845. Now back to Ann Woodhead... She died about Sep
1884 in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. She was buried on 1 Oct 1884 in St.
Nicholas' Church, Cumberworth, Yorkshire. Noah WALSHAW and Ann WOODHEAD
