1. John TANNER.

John TANNER and Ann TRIM were married on 10 Apr 1775 in Harbridge, Hampshire. John TANNER and Ann TRIM had the following children:

Sarah TANNER was christened on 28 Jan 1776 in Harbridge, Hampshire. She was born about 1776 in Harbridge, Hampshire. She died about 1776 in Harbridge, Hampshire. She was buried on 1 Nov 1776 in Harbridge, Hampshire.

William TANNER was christened on 4 Jun 1781 in Harbridge, Hampshire. He was born about 1781 in Harbridge, Hampshire. William married Sarah and their children were:- William (1802), John (1804), James (1805), George (1811), Peter, (1813), Isaac (1814), Harry (1816), Aaron (1817), Henry George (1819), Louisa (1820), Peter (1822), Joseph (1823) and Alfred (1825).
In 1841 William (60; farmer) and Sarah (60) lived in Shobley with their children Isaac (24; agricultural labourer), Aaron (20; agricultural labourer) and Peter (18; agricultural labourer).
In 1851 William Tanner (70 - transcribed as 20; yeoman; b.Ringwood) and Sarah (71; b. Harbridge) lived in Poulner with a visitor Emily August (11; b. Ringwood - actually their granddaughter (Louisa's daughter)).
In 1861 William (80; unmarried (actually a widower); retired farmer) lived at Shobley with his son Aaron (40; unmarried (actually married-see below); farmer's son; b. Picket Post) and a grandson, Joseph Tanner (10; b. Shobley). They lived next to James (52; unmarried; agricultural labourer; b. Picket Post).

William and Sarah's children:-

William (1802)
married Martha King on 25 December 1826 and their children were:- Ann (c.25 February 1827), Eliza (c.9 November 1828), Thomas William and Eliza (c.17 July 1831), Thomas William (c.19 March 1835), Ann (c.4 October 1837), Jane (b.7 February 1842; c.9 June 1842), George (c.17 April 1844), Emily (1847) and Jemima (c.13 March 1850).
In 1841 William (40; agricultural labourer) and Martha (30) lived in Shobley near his parents with their children Eliza (12), Elizabeth (9), Thomas (6) and Ann (3).
In 1851 William (49; agricultural labourer; b. Shobley) and Martha (44) lived in Shobley with their children Thomas (16; agricultural labourer), Ann (13), George (7), Emily (3) and Jemima (1).
In 1861 William (57; agricultural labourer) and Martha (53) lived in Linford with their children George (17; agricultural labourer) and Jemima (11).
In 1871 William (70; labourer) and Martha (56) lived in Linford with their son George (23; labourer). Jemima FANNER (21; laundress) was a lodger in Boscombe, Bournemouth with Ben and Ann Coles and their children.
William Tanner died in 1875 at the age of 74.

James (1805)
In 1841 James (30; dealer) lived alone in Shobley, near his parents.
In 1851 James (40; unmarried; dealer; b. Shobley) lived with his brother Aaron in Burley.
In 1861 James (52; unmarried; agricultural labourer; b. Picket Post) lived in Shobley near his father.
In 1881 James (72; unmarried; retired cotton dealer; b. Ringwood) lived alone near his brother Isaac in Poulner.
In 1891 James (90; in receipt of parish relief) lived with his brother Isaac. He died soon after the census at the age of 92.

Isaac (1814) In 1844 Isaac married Ellen Warne.
In 1851 Isaac (32; farm labourer) and Ellen (36) lived at Poulner, where they were to spend all their married lives, and they lived with their children Charles Isaac (1844), Walter (1845), William (1848) and Emma (1850-1856).
In 1861 Isaac (agricultural labourer) and Ellen lived with their children Charles, Walter and William (all agricultural labourers) and their younger children Henry Peter (1852), Emily (1855), Ellen (1858) and Emma (1859).
In 1871 Isaac (agricultural labourer; b. Picket Post - transcribed as Picket PORT) and Ellen lived with their children Walter (agricultural labourer) and Emma.
In 1881 Isaac (general labourer) and Ellen lived with Emma (enumerated as Ellen).
In 1891 Isaac (gardener) and Ellen lived with his brother James (90; in receipt of parish relief) and their grandson, Walter (15; general labourer). Walter was the son of Isaac and Ellen's son Walter (m.1873 to Emily Maria Baker; children Walter Charles (1875), John Henry (1879), William Frank (1882), Emma Ellen (1884) and Henry Thomas (1886; aka Tom); Emily Maria died 1888 at the age of 38; lived Poulner 1881-1891 and Shobley 1901).
Ellen died in 1891 and Isaac died in 1894.

Aaron (1817) In 1851 Aaron (31; dealer; b. Shobley) and his wife Sarah (30; b. Hightown, Ringwood) lived at Black Bush, Burley with their children Anna Maria (8; b. Hightown), Sarah Ann (2; b. Hightown) and Joseph (1 month; b.1851 Burley) and James Tanner (40; unmarried; dealer; b. Shobley).
In 1861 Aaron was enumerated with his father and was classed as unmarried. Joseph was also in the same household. Also in 1861 Aaron FANNER (41; agricultural labourer - transcribed as ANNA FANNER) and his wife Sarah lived at Toulford, Picket Post, with Sarah Ann (12), Joseph (10), Sabina (1853-1873), Olive (1856) and Arthur Charles (1858).
In 1871 Aaron (51; agricultural labourer) and Sarah (50) lived at Nursling Road, Nursling with their children Joseph (20; woodman), Olive, Arthur Charles and Rosina Constance (1862 Ringwood).
In 1881 ARON (60; married; gardener (domestic) and his daughter Rosina (18) still lived in Nursling. In their household was Olive C. Beaumont (3; grandchild; b. London) and Samuel Lane (21; nephew; b. Ringwood). Sarah Tanner, Aaron's wife was visiting Jane Bridport (69; farmer's widow) at Hope Villa, Nursling.

Henry George (1819) In 1844 HARRY Tanner married Ann Carpenter in Lyndhurst.
In 1851 Henry (33; gardener) and his wife Ann (27; laundress) lived at Havelet, St. Peter Port, Guernsey with their children Harriet (6) and Samuel (4). In 1861 Henry (gardener) and his wife Ann (1822 Lyndhurst) lived in Middlebridge Street, Romsey and they were to continue to do so until at least 1881. They lived with their children Harriet Ann (1844 Lyndhurst), Samuel (1846 Lyndhurst), Joseph George (1851 Guernsey), Lucy (1853 Guernsey), Elizabeth Mary (1855 Lyndhurst) and Ernest John (1859 Romsey).
In 1866 Harriet Ann married James Betteridge and they had two sons Ernest (1866) and Henry James (1868 Southampton). James Betteridge died in 1870 aged 33. In 1871 Henry (gardener) and Ann lived with their daughter Lucy and grandson Ernest Betteridge. His mother, Harriet (widow; tailoress), lived in the same street with her son Henry James and her sister Elizabeth (15; assistant at house) and a lodger. Harriet married Nathaniel George in 1872 and they had two sons, Herbert (1873) and Harry (1875). Nathaniel died in 1880 aged 46. In 1881 Harriet George (widow; 36; publican) lived at the Bridge Tavern, Southampton with her sons James Betteridge, Herbert and Harry George and her sister Elizabeth Tanner (25).
In 1881 Henry LANNER (gardener) and Ann (laundress) lived with Lucy (laundress) and their grandsons Ernest Betteridge and Herbert George (7; b. Southampton).
Lucy married Albert Adams in 1884.
In 1891 Ann Tanner was a visitor in their home at Fern Brook House, Romsey. Albert was a butler for a retired solicitor and he and Lucy had 2 girl boarders from the Dr. Barnado's Home and a male lodger.

Louisa (1820) married James August (c.4 December 1814 Ringwood; parents Obadiah August and Sally Wimbleton) on 3 December 1840.
In 1841 James (25; agricultural labourer) and Louisa (20) lived at Foulford with their daughter Emily (1 month) and Sarah August (20; servant; b.1819). As they lived next to James' father Obadiah August (43; agricultural labourer) and siblings Elizabeth (1821) and Mary Anne (1824) is likely that Sarah was staying with James and Louisa to help with the new baby. Louisa died and in 1851 Emily was visiting her grandparents William and Sarah Tanner. James remarried and had 4 more children. He died in 1877.

Peter (1822) married Emily Jane Webb in 1845.
Their children were:- Emily Jane (b.18 May 1846; c.23 August 1846 Burley), Albert (c.14 January 1849 Romsey), Louisa (c.14 July 1850 Romsey), Augusta (c. 9 May 1852 Burley),, Caroline (c.10 December 1854), Leonora (c.12 April 1857 Romsey), Peter William (c.9 November 1860 Romsey), Frederick George (1862) and John Edward (1864).

In 1851 WILLIAM (28; innkeper Bridge Tavern; b. DORSET, Ringwood) and Emily (26; b. Romsey) lived in Romsey with their children Emily (5), Albert (3) and Louisa (1).
In 1861 Peter (38; road contractor; b. New Forest) and Emily Jane (36; b. Romsey) lived at Bell Street, Romsey with their children Emily Jane (14; dressmaker), Albert (13), Louisa (10), Augusta (7), Leonora (4) and Peter William (10 months). Also living in the household were Ann Webb (62; mother; carrier's widow - Emily Jane's mother) and Mary A. Bedman (21; niece; tailoress; b. Winchester).
In 1871 Peter (48; pork butcher) and Emily Jane (46) lived at 6 Romsey Road, Southampton with their children Augusta (18), Leonora (14), Peter (10), Frederick (8) and John (6) and 3 lodgers.
Peter died in 1875 aged 52.
In 1881 Emily Jane (48; widow; dairy maid) lived at Week Road, Weeke with her children Frederick George (19; smith), John Edward (16) and Louisa (8 - actually her granddaughter b. London 1872) and a lodger. He died on 17 May 1861. He was buried about 1861 in Burley, Hampshire.
