to view a picture of the person18. John OWERS was born about 1852 in Stifford, Essex. In 1871 he was a Shoemaker in Bermondsey, London. In 1871 he was living with David Beckwith and Mary Ann (née Owers) Between 1881 and 1901 he was a House Painter in Rotherhithe, London.
John OWERS and Susannah WADE were married about
1875 in St Olave's, Southwark, London. They lived in 5 Pedworth Road,
Rotherhithe, Surrey in 1881. They lived in the same house as her
parents Henry and Frances Wade and her siblings Eliza, Charles and Thomas. They
lived in 8 Egan Street, Camberwell in 1901. Susannah
WADE (daughter of Henry WADE and Frances UNKNOWN) was born about 1856 in
Rotherhithe, London. The Wade Family. Susannah was the daughter
of Henry Wade (b.1815 Bermondsey) and Frances Wade (b.1825 Ipswich, Suffolk).
Frances' parents, James Wade and Mary Ann Marsh, had married on
3 September 1823 at St. Margaret's Church, Ipswich, Suffolk. Their children were:-
Frances (b.7 February 1825), Thomas (b.11 March 1826), Mary Ann (b.8 April 1827),
James (b.20 December 1828;d.1830), James (1830), Emma (1832) and Henry (1835).
In 1841 Frances, her parents and siblings (except Mary Jane who was a female
servant in nearby Essex Street) lived in Napoleon Place, Bermondsey. James was
a blacksmith. Between 1851 and 1861 James and Mary Ann still lived in Rotherhithe
and James was a ship smith as was his son Henry. They had three more children:-
Jeremiah (1842), Sarah (1843) and Jane (1846). By 1881 James was a widower and
lived with his son Jeremiah and family in Plumstead.
Henry and Frances Wade lived in Rotherhithe from the time of their marriage in
early 1846 until at least 1881. Henry was a rope maker. They had nine children:-
Emma frances (1846), Henry William (1849), Mary Ann (1851), James 91855), Susannah
(1856), Sarah Jane (1859), Eliza Matilda (1862), Charles Robert (1866) and Thomas
Edward (1871). In 1881 they lived in the same house as their daughter Susannah
and her husband John Owers and their family. In 1891 the family had moved to
Bermondsey and Henry had retired. Emma and Eliza still worked as shirt collar
makers and Thomas was an assistant publisher of books.
She was christened on 3 Aug 1856 in St Mary's Church, Rotherhithe, Surrey.
