3. Joseph HEPPLESTONE was born on 5 May 1802 in Portswood, Stockport, Cheshire. In the 1841 Census he is recorded as being born in Yorkshire. In the 1851 Census Joseph is recorded as being born in Stockport. In the 1861 Census it is recorded that he was born in Hoylandswaine. He was christened on 13 Jun 1802 in St Mary's Church, Stockport, Cheshire. He died of paralysis and erysipelas (6 days) on 16 Jul 1870 in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. He was a Nail Maker in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire.
Joseph HEPPLESTONE and Ruth AUDIN
were married on 4 Jun 1827 in Silkstone Church, Silkstone, Yorkshire.
They lived in Haigh Head, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire in 1841. They
lived in Fell Lane, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire between 1851 and 1870.
Joseph and Ruth brought up two stepchildren, seven of their own children and
seven illegitimate grandchildren. Ruth AUDIN was born
about 1800 in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. There are two accounts of
her parentage.
(1) Her mother, Lydia (b1780 Hoylandswaine) married Francis Hoyland but was recorded
in the IGI as Lydia Fawden or Hawden. They had six children - Francis (1805),
Sarah (1807), Jonathan (1809-1816), William (1811) Joshua (1813) and Lydia (1817).
(2) Her parents were Thomas and Jane Audin (both born in 1785 Hoylandswaine).
Jane died before 1841 when the family lived at Top of Hall Lane, Hoylandswaine
and were enumerated as Andin. Their children were: Ruth (1802), Ann (1805; m.
Richard Ellis; 9 children), Thomas (1813; nail maker; m. Ann; 11 children), Sarah
(c.16 Feb 1817 Silkstone), Henry (1818; nail maker; m. Grace; 7 children), George
(c. 15 Aug 1821 Silkstone), Carolina (c.16 Jan 1825 Silkstone), Elizabeth (1825),
Edward (c. 19 Apr 1829; nail maker; 5 children). She lived in Mustard Hill,
Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire in 1871. This was the home for Ruth and
her family after her husband's death. She died of Paralysis on 16 Jan 1872 in
Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. Joseph HEPPLESTONE and Ruth AUDIN had the

The death was registered by William Silverwood. |
21 | vii. | Thomas HEPPLESTONE was christened on 28 Apr 1839 in Silkstone Church, Silkstone, Yorkshire. He was born about 1839 in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. Between 1851 and 1871 he was a Coal Miner in Silkstone, Yorkshire. Thomas never married and later moved to Barnsley. He lived in Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire between 1851 and 1871. He lived in 12 Villa Square, Barugh, Barnsley, Yorkshire in 1881. Thomas was unmarried and lodging with John and Julia Cawthorne. Between 1881 and 1891 he was a Coal Miner in Barugh, Barnsley, Yorkshire. Thomas registered the death of Clara Hepplestone in 1885. He lived in Barugh, Barnsley, Yorkshire in 1891. He lived alone. |
