Frances HAYLES and James GILBERT were married about 1899 in Victoria Methodist Chapel, Pyle Street, Newport, Isle of Wight. Their children were Annie (1901), Benjamin Hart (1903), Roy James (1906), Doris May (1909) and Nora (1912). All were born in Newport. James GILBERT was born about 1876 in Crutchel, Dorset. In 1901 he was a Prison Warder at Parkhurst in Newport, Isle of Wight. He lived in 3/4 Saville Street, Marylebone, London in 1901. He was a visitor, as was his brother-in-law, Joseph Hayles, at the house of Elias Bower (b.1865 Portland; sergeant in the Metropolitan Police). His wife was Ann W. Bower (nee Blainey; b.1866 Portland) and they had a son David aged 11 and a niece Evelyn Blainey aged 1 also staying with them.
