49. Fanny Jane COOLEY was born on 7 Jul 1855 in Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight. Fanny Jane was born to Mary Ann Cooley two years before her marriage to William Morris Hayles. No father was noted on her birth certificate. Family sources suggest that she was known as Fanny Jane Hayles. In all the Census records and the records of her marriage and her children's birth certificates she was only known as Fanny Jane Cooley. It is quite possible, however, that William and Mary's children considered her to be their elder sister even though she was never brought up in the same house as them. She lived in Forest Side, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight in 1861. In 1861 Fanny was 5 years old and was classed as a visitor at the Pierces' home. Frances (nee Cooley; b1816 Carisbrooke) was her great-aunt. Presumably, as Joseph Pierce (b1824 Carisbrooke; labourer) and Frances had been married for 11 years without having any children of their own, in 1855 when Fanny was born, they decided to bring her up. She lived in Gunville Place, Gunville, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight in 1871. By 1871, Fanny was classed as the daughter of Joseph and FANNY. In 1881 she was an Assistant at home in Gunville Place, Gunville, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight. In 1881 Fanny was classed as the Pierces' niece.
