to view a picture of the person69. George BURDET was born about 1558. He died about 1611. He was buried on 12 Dec 1611 in Cawthorne, Yorkshire. George Burdet lived at Carr Head, Hoylandswaine.
George BURDET and Jane SOTWELL were married
about 1608. Jane SOTWELL was born about
1575 in Catling Hall, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. She remarried in
1611. After her husband George's death in 1611 she married William
Field of Thurnscoe (b.1556 Ardsley) in 1615. (She married as Jane Sotwell.) On
18 December 1613 William Field agreed that "on his marriage with Jane Burdett
of the Carhead, Yorkshire, widow, sister of Edward Sotwell, he will settle £100
on Jane, to be paid her one month after his death. He further agrees to enter
into bonds with Edward Sotwell, with conditions to pay to Jane Burdett's children
£100 between them, and to bring up and educate the said children."
On the same day he agreed a bond. "William Field of Thurnscoe Grange, Yorkshire,
gent and Henry Otley of Thurnscoe, Yorkshire, yeoman, are bound to Edward Sotwell
of Cathill, Yorkshire, gent, in £40, to pay to Richard Burdett, son of Jane
Burdett of the Carhead, Yorkshire, widow, £20, at age 21."
Jane and William had four sons and William Field died in 1623 in Thurnscoe.
She died on 21 Oct 1623 in Silkstone, Yorkshire. George BURDET and
Jane SOTWELL had the following children:
125 | i. | Ann BURDET was born about 1608 in Carr Head, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. She was buried on 21 Apr 1609 in St. John's Church, Penistone, Yorkshire. She died about 1609 in Carr Head, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. |
126 | ii. | Richard BURDET was born about 1610 in
Carr Head, Hoylandswaine, Yorkshire. The difficulty with untangling
the ownership of Carr Head is doubled because there were two Richard Burdets
(cousins) born around the same time who both lived at Carr Head! He was christened
on 16 Jul 1610 in St. John's Church, Penistone, Yorkshire. He was
the beneficiary of a Bond dated on 18 Dec 1613. The Bond stated:
"William Field of Thurnscoe Grange, Yorkshire, gent and Henry Otley of Thurnscoe,
Yorkshire, yeoman, are bound to Edward Sotwell of Cathill, Yorkshire, gent, in
£40, to pay to Richard Burdett, son of Jane Burdett of the Carhead, Yorkshire,
widow, £20, at age 21."
