39. Nicholas BURDET was born about 1534 in Denby, Yorkshire. He served in the military in 1587. He was listed as a Pike Man in the Barnsley Muster Rolls. He owned the rights to rent on 3 Dec 1597. A bond stated that "the vicar of Penistone had to pay annual rents to Nicholas Burdet of Swanwell, gent, and his male heirs, the Lord of the Manor of Brearley." He died about 1598 in Darton, Yorkshire. In his Will dated 13 March 1598, he left a third of his goods and chattels to his wife, Ann, one hundred Marks of lawful English money to his son Richard and to Beatrix, his daughter, he left lands around Cartworth near Holmfirth on the understanding that she would pay William Goodart Burdet, his illegitimate son, £20. To his son, Matthew, he left one black filly plus his legal dues as heir. He was buried about 1598 in Darton, Yorkshire.
