He moved with his children Walshaw, Alice and George and his granddaughters Charlotte and Sarah Ann. He lived in 5 Old Mill Fold, Wilsden, Bradford, Yorkshire in 1871. James was transcribed as BILTTLIFFE. James lived with his children Charlotte, Alice and George as well as Charlotte's illegitimate daughters Johanna (Ann) and Emma. In 1871 he was a Labourer in Wilsden, Bradford, Yorkshire. He lived in 31 Shann Street, Bolton, Bradford, Yorkshire in 1891. He was recorded as a boarder in his married daughter Alice's household. James BILTCLIFFE
and Joannah WALSHAW were married on 6 Sep 1841 in Silkstone Church, Silkstone,
Yorkshire. On her Marriage Certificate her name is recorded as Joan.
Joannah WALSHAW (daughter of Benjamin WALSHAW and Ann
SHAW) was born on 12 Sep 1821 in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. She was
christened on 12 Sep 1821 in Thurlstone, Yorkshire. In 1851 she was
a Bobbin Winder in Denby, Yorkshire. She died of Anasarcha (3 months)
on 20 Oct 1854 in Denby, Yorkshire. This is a generalised oedema
probably caused by heart or renal failure. The fact that the doctor had been
treating her for three months suggests that this was a complication of her pregnancy
and delivery as her daughter, Jane, was born in July 1854. She was buried on
23 Oct 1854 in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. Before she married James Biltcliffe,
Joannah had two illegitimate children. The 1841 census shows that the two girls,
Charlotte and Sarah Ann, were brought up by her parents Benjamin and Ann in Upper
Cumberworth. When her brother Moses married he and his wife Mary took the girls
to live with them. No doubt two young children were quite a strain for Benjamin
and Ann as they were in their 70s. Her two daughters became pregnant at the
end of the 1850s and they returned home to have their children. The situation
had turned full circle as James brought up his grandchildren as the youngest
in his family. James BILTCLIFFE and Joannah WALSHAW had the following children:
